Plan Drawing showing Log Work
Through each stage of planning and building your log home we are here to help. We can provide information and give advice to ensure that you achieve the home of your dreams as smoothly as possible.
Planning
Prior to spending time and money on the design of your log home, it is important to do some general planning to make certain that you consider your budget, needs, wants, and timeframe. Planning ensures the rest of the log home design and construction goes well and avoids disappointment or frustration. Our log home planning worksheet will help you to get started. We are available to work with you through the planning stage and to assist you in acquiring accurate information.
Design
Whether you already have a detailed plan, or only the basic concept, we can guide you through the process preparing the details to obtain a suitable design for your log home. It is wise to use a log home designer to prepare your plans. As the name implies, a log home designer specializes in designing log homes and will ensure that all the important considerations regarding log construction and style are made throughout your log home plans.

A good place to begin choosing a design is by looking at the log home designer's stock plans. These existing plans will give you many ideas for log homes of various sizes and styles. You may find just what you are looking for. If you do not find something suitable the designer can prepare a custom design to fit your site, budget, tastes, and vision for your log home. It is helpful to know at this stage whether you prefer a round log home or a timber log home as there are subtle differences the log home designer will need to consider. Give us a call with your ideas - we love to talk log buildings and would be happy to help with your design process.
We are happy to work with R.C.M. Cad Design Drafting Ltd., a log home designer that produces top quality, extensively detailed log home plans. R.C.M. has a wide selection of completed plans to browse through, and specializes in designing and drafting custom plans for a variety of log buildings.
Construction
We provide the log shell for your log home. This basically means any of the parts of your home that are made from logs or timbers: the log walls, the log roof structure, the floor system for the loft (if in your plan), and the log roof structure for any covered log decks.

Once your blueprints are finalized and all the decisions have been made regarding your log home, it is time for us to begin construction. We build your log shell at our building yard in Fraser Lake using wood from the local area.

Setup
Once your log shell is completed at our building yard in Fraser Lake, we disassemble it for shipping to your building site. Our crew will be there to re-erect the log shell on your foundation and review any important information that you will need to know to finish, maintain, and enjoy your new home.

While we do not build turn-key homes, we will work with you or your general contractor to ensure that the important information regarding finishing your log home is known and understood.
Timeframe
From when you begin planning to when your log shell is on your site ready for the finishing work can range from 3 months to 9 months. Provided you already have your property, the first step of planning and designing can take from one to four months depending on how certain you are about the concept for your house. If you choose a stock plan with no revisions this step can happen quite quickly.

During this time, we work to ensure we have suitable logs for your home. Once we have your final blueprints, your log shell can be constructed in one to three months depending on the complexity. While we are constructing the log shell, you can prepare your site and foundation. When your site is ready, the next step of disassembly, transport, and reassembly happens rather quickly. The shipping time will depend on where your site is located from Fraser Lake, BC and reassembly will only takes a matter of days. If you require financing this can add time to the process, although arranging financing can be ongoing during the other stages. As with any construction project, problems such as difficulty scheduling contractors, unexpected delays, poor weather, etc. can all add time to the process. However, if all goes well, things can come together quite quickly.
Finishing
Finishing work can be done by you, various contractors, or a general contractor. Finishing time can vary greatly depending on who will do the finishing work and the time they have available to dedicate to finishing your home. If working with a general contractor, it is important to choose a reliable contractor who is familiar with log homes to ensure the process runs smoothly from start to finish.
While efforts can be made to expedite each step, the process is much more enjoyable if a realistic timeframe is planned for from the start.
